Adeneo Embedded releases Windows Embedded Compact 7 reference BSP for Zynq-7000 EPP
San Jose, CA, and Bellevue, WA March 27, 2012 - Today at the “ESC Design West 2012”, Adeneo Embedded, a Microsoft Windows Embedded Gold Partner and recipient of the “Windows Embedded Excellence Award” from 2007 through 2011, announced the availability of the Windows Embedded Compact 7 reference board support package (BSP) for Xilinx’s Zynq-7000 Extensible Processing Platform, along with a full suite of support services, including customized support, training and development services, to assist original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) developing advanced multimedia and connected embedded devices.
Targeting Xilinx Zynq-7000 EPP ZC702 Evaluation Kit, the Windows Embedded Compact 7 BSP is designed for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) developing embedded devices based on this platform. The architecture of the BSP is fully compliant with Microsoft Production-Quality OEM Adaptation Layer (PQOAL) specifications to provide clear separations between CPU-dependent and board-dependent features, helping OEMs focus on adapting only the specific portions of code related to their custom design. The BSP also supports features such as symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) and OpenGL ES1.1, enabling OEMs in developing advanced and complex embedded devices.
This BSP is available in initial version for customers to start evaluating and prototyping systems built on Zynq-7000 devices with Windows Embedded Compact 7, with a full RTM release planned in Q3-2012. OEMs can already download the free binary image for evaluation, as well as request source code access from the Adeneo Embedded website (http://www.adeneo-embedded/Products/Board-Support-Packages/Xilinx-Zynq).
Adeneo Embedded, a member of the Xilinx Alliance Program, collaborated with Xilinx to develop this reference BSP, and combines its deep knowledge of ARM technology with its extensive Windows Embedded Compact experience to create a breadth of expertise invaluable to OEMs seeking to differentiate their designs. This expertise uniquely positions Adeneo Embedded to deliver superior customer services supporting system integration, BSP, drivers and application development as well as performance optimization.
Windows Embedded Compact 7 provides developers, designers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with a powerful real-time OS and a full suite of development tools, enabling an integrated, streamlined development experience to speed devices to market.
The Zynq-7000 family is Xilinx's first extensible processing platform (EPP) which delivers levels of performance that go beyond what traditional processing solutions can implement. The new class of semiconductor device combines an industry-standard ARM dual-core Cortex-A9 MPCore processing system with Xilinx 28nm scalable programmable logic architecture. Well suited for systems that require high, real-time performance, the Zynq-7000 EPP processor-centric architecture offers the flexibility and scalability of an FPGA combined with ASIC-like performance/power and microprocessor ease of programming.
"The richness of features provided by Zynq-7000 EPP, combined with the Adeneo Embedded system integration expertise on Windows Embedded Compact 7 is an excellent solution to ensure OEMs’ design success," . "Device makers using the advanced ARM Cortex-A9 processor architecture combined with FPGA capabilities of the Zynq-7000 EPP have the highest levels of performance and flexibility for their devices, and require top-level expertise on OS integration, optimization and custom FPGA IP integrations. OEMs can rely on the Adeneo Embedded engineering teams located in Europe and North America to receive best-in-class support for their Windows Embedded Compact 7-based developments.”
Yannick Chammings, chief executive officer, Adeneo Embedded
”Adeneo Embedded worked closely with Xilinx to ensure Zynq-7000 EPP developers have a starting point from which they can use the embedded tools that Microsoft offers in Windows Embedded Compact 7,” . “Supports for Windows Embedded Compact 7 means that Zynq-7000 devices can drive applications in real time targeting markets such as industrial and medical with features such as multi-touch user interfaces, connectivity, and scalability to support multiple products.”
Mark Jensen, Director, Processing Platforms Marketing at Xilinx
"The Adeneo Embedded support offers developers an invaluable resource in optimizing the Windows Embedded Compact platform on Xilinx Zynq-7000 based devices,” . “As the embedded space evolves to connected, data-driven intelligent systems, we are confident the BSP from Adeneo Embedded will drive OEM innovation as they create customized and specialized industry devices.”
Steven Bridgeland, product manager for Windows Embedded at Microsoft
“PQOAL compliance for easy adaptation to custom designs – Due to compliance with Microsoft’s PQOAL and Production Quality Device (PQD) specifications, Adeneo Embedded BSPs are cost-effective solutions for developing custom designs on Zynq-7000 based devices under the Windows Embedded Compact platform with minimal redesign. Portions of the BSP handling board features will require review and redesign while all codes linked to the core CPU can be reused without modifications.
Fully-featured to cover all customer applications – The BSP includes the drivers for various peripherals integrated in Zynq-7000, such as power management, SMP capabilities or hardware accelerate OpenGL ES 1.1 support enabling specific targeting of virtually all types of custom solutions.
Strong reliability to warrant the best quality – Adeneo Embedded BSPs are qualified using the Windows Embedded Compact BSP Test Kit ensuring robustness and reliability.
